What Every Teen Needs to Know

I purchased this book at a yard sale for .25. It caught my attention because I have a 15 year old female child. She has been having esteem issues for the first time ever. Some days I feel so helpless because I don't understand how she can not feel beautiful each day. She is so smart. I am talking weird smart. Not the every parents "my child is so smart". She truly does have a brain that doesn't work like us normal people. But she will call herself stupid. She also makes the comment a whole lot that she has no friends. Which I know she does. She doesn't like to go out all the time and I assure her that is just fine but this leads her to believe she has no friends.

SO I have been feeling a little stuck. What can I do to help this child of mine embrace herself. Be confident. Assure herself everyday that she is Awesome! And that she will succeed at whatever she does. SO of course I have been googling but most of the sites say the same ol blah blah blah!

I found this book. Most of the book is just positIve, easy to read quotes. They are quotes that actually make you think.

The First thing that caught my attention that I want my child to live by. We actually could all benefit if we follow this!

If you do these TEN THINGS you will be able to see your way through just about anything.
Stay Positive. (Hopeful people are happier).
Choose Wisely (Good choices will come back to bless you)
Remember what matters (The present moment. The good people in it Hope, Dreams Feelings!)
Don't STRESS out over things you can't control. (Just Don't)
Count every blessing (Even the little ones add up a lot)
Be Good to your body ( It's the only one you get)
Listen to the wishes of your Heart. (It always seems to know what's true, what's right what to do and where to go with your life.
Understand how special you are!
Realize how strong you and be
And know that YES your're going to make it through no matter what

Really makes ya think...RIGHT??

This book is filled with positve, reenforcing quotes. Here are a couple that I liked.

Don't be pushed by your problems, Be led by your dreams!
or how about this one (we can all relate to this one)

I am aware that I am less than some people prefer me to be, but most people are unaware that I am so much more than what they see  <-- love this

You don't need a certain number of friends, only a number of friends that you can be certain of.

This book also teaches about being careful about what you post on the internet, speaks a ton about posting photos. It gives you ways to view yourself differently when you look in the mirror, There are checklists such as 13 Things I don't Want You To Do and Avoiding Wrong Turns.  This gives teens advice in everything.

I am an adult. i really enjoyed reading this. It educates me on ways I can approach her about these topics. She tells me all the time that high school has changed. Maybe it has but we all know at the end of the day it is the SAME!

  1. I wish I would have had a book like that when I was a teen...however I doubt I would have listened to it....

  2. This is definitely a book I wish I had when I was younger and in my teens. I'm actually looking this up as I have a teen niece and nephew who can benefit from this book. Would be a great Christmas or just cause gift. Thanks for sharing!

  4. This sounds like a great book and a real inspiration for your daughter. Hang in there--just your being there for her and loving her is huge. Give her all the encouragement and hugs that you can! I have a great site from a friend of mine, check it out: http://signewhitson.com/ Signe is wonderful. She deals a lot with self-esteem issues and addresses bullying.

  5. Those are very positive messages, and it's nice that it talks about what not to post on the Internet. A lot of teens are clueless about this!
